A Trio of Southern California Companies Headline the Super Chevy Show Autocross at Las Vegas Total Cost Involved, Wilwood Disc Brakes, and Currie Enterprises have become official sponsors of the first ever Autocross to be held at a Super Chevy Show. Autocross, a designed road course where individual drivers compete for the best timed run based on skill and speed, has become very popular not only with the sports car crowd, but with muscle car enthusiasts as well. At the 30th Anniversary Super Chevy Show season opener in Las Vegas next month, participants will be able to bring their Camaros, Chevelles, Corvettes etc., and compete against each other to see who will take home the honor of being the quickest and fastest on the Autocross course.

There's no question that GM's financial troubles have impacted the development of the C7 Corvette. That car's introduction is definitely further off in the future than Chevrolet would have liked. Still, its engineers are doing their part to keep the C6 Corvette interesting and on the cutting edge. For 2011, Chevy will offer a new special edition Z06, called the ZO6 Carbon Limited Edition.

Full-time students in the United States and Canada pursuing a career in the automotive industry may be eligible for financial assistance through the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF).Over the past two decades, SEMA scholarships have supported over countless students with more than $1,000,000 in scholarship awards. The program rewards the best and brightest students engaged in studies leading to careers in the automotive aftermarket or related fields. The application deadline for the upcoming year is April 2, 2010. SEMA will offer four-year, two-year, graduate, loan forgiveness and member/dependent scholarships.

At the 2009 SEMA Awards Banquet in Las Vegas, Nevada, Source Interlink Media’s own Doug Evans was given the 2009 SEMA Person of the Year award. The SEMA Person of the Year award, created in 1969, goes to an industry member who has demonstrated outstanding contributions and dedication to the automotive aftermarket over a 12 month period.

SEMA, working on behalf of California enthusiasts of specialty vehicles (street rods, custom vehicles, kit cars and replicas) and in cooperation with the Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Automotive Repair, Air Resources Board and Attorney General's office has resolved a complex and threatening issue to this market segment and the industry it serves. "This breakthrough procedure allows owners of certain specially constructed vehicles (SCVs) to avoid the pitfalls of a previously muddy process for legally registering and titling such vehicles in California," said Steve McDonald, SEMA Vice President of Government Affairs. "Under this process, vehicle owners can avoid a situation that could have led to confiscated SCVs and law enforcement action. Further, the program now permits these vehicles to demonstrate state emissions-compliance requirements."
