Chevrolet Camaro – Sixth generation: 2016

Chevrolet will reveal the sixth generation Camaro on May 16, 2015 at Belle Isle Park, Michigan. The new car will be built on the GM Alpha platform and will be available for the 2016 model year.

The GM Alpha platform currently underpins General Motors’ compact to mid-size, front-engine, rear-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles. Platform basics include MacPherson struts on the front, 5 link independent rear, use of high strength steel and aluminum, and an overall focus on reducing weight. The GM Alpha platform made its debut in the 2013 Cadillac ATS, which entered production in July 2012.

Based off the same platform of the Cadillac ATS one might expect a 4 cylinder 2.0L turbocharged engine to be added as an option for 2016. The ATS is available with a standard 2.5L (202 HP), 2.0L turbo (272 HP) and the 3.6L V6 at 321 HP. The 2015 Mustang is available with 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder that engine produces 310 HP. Ford and Chevy tend to mimic engine options and horsepower.
