In response to the Ford Shelby GT500, Chevrolet created a bigger and badder beast: the Camaro ZL1.
The 2012 ZL1 has a 6.2-liter supercharged and inter-cooled V8 engine rated at 580 horsepower and 550 pounds of torque, 30 horses and 46 pounds more than the GT500. The engine is actually borrowed from the Cadillac sports car, the CTS-V.

Zero to 60 mph is accomplished in 4.0 seconds (a tenth of a second faster than the GT500), along with a zero to 100 time in just under 10 seconds. The ZL1 does the quarter-mile dash in roughly 12.5 seconds stock.

The ZL1 uses a six-speed Tremec manual transmission with a dual-plate clutch, 20-inch Goodyear Supercar tires, Brembo brakes, and a MagneRide active suspension, which was originally made for the Chevy Corvette.
